Book Description:
The voice that Jewel Foster hears in her head
is not her own. It tells her terrible things and
has since she can remember. Often it
demands she kill herself. It’s a miracle she’s made it to sixteen. One extraordinary
night changes everything.
There are scales over the eyes of mortals to prevent them from seeing the
immortal. Jewel loses them and can now see the angels and demons that surround
and interfere. Neither side is pleased that she can see them.
She will meet her guardian angel who will explain everything to her. But what can
a mere mortal hope to do with such a gift?
Now, both sides in a spiritual war press against her; a war that has raged since the
Devil was cast out of Heaven.
Last week, one wanted her dead. This week, they all do.
Review
So, when I read the book, I did easily read it in a short span. I enjoyed it for the most part and would recommend it to people who are interested in Christian based horror. I wasn’t expecting a book that would be painting Christianity in that kind of a light, and my preferences are typically a bit darker. It did have me keeping at it and wanting to see what happened next.
The book is about a teen girl, Jewel Foster, who has been suffering from what looked like Schizophrenia. She had been hearing voices that she thought was her own thoughts that made her “want to kill herself” and other things. She had one friend and a strained relationship with her mom. One day she is suddenly able to see all the demons and angels that walk on Earth and saw how all the “troubled people” are actually being tormented by their own demons. She was able to chase her own demon off and started reaching out to various people when she saw them being attacked. Of course, I won’t give away further but all the backstabbing and drama she deals with is worth a read.
This book shows various mental illness (Schizophrenia, addiction, suicidal tendencies, depression and anxiety) from a spiritual warfare standpoint and shows how she was able to defeat her own demons while trying to help others (although not always successfully)
Who I would recommend the book to
If you like the angels vs demons, Christian based fantasy or horror books I would look at it.
