The very first card in the major Arcana is the Fool, or card 0. When the fool shows up he means one of two things- either new beginnings and a fresh start or the end of an era- “acting a fool”/being foolish or entering something with childlike wonder.
Right Side Up
He typically symbolizes new beginnings or being totally new and ignorant in a situation, depending on if he’s drawn upright or reversed.
When you draw him upright: new beginnings, fresh start, complete innocence in a situation
Reversed:
Ignorant, fool (literally), foolish decisions were made or are about to be made, knocked back to a “new beginning” (divorce/losing near everything/etc)
If you draw the fool when you’re doing a relationship reading, it could be showing a new relationship on the horizon or it could show a break up.
If you’re doing a career reading, it could show a new opportunity (right side up) or the loss of your job (reversed) so it could show either a new beginning (positive) or a loss that would make you start over
As with all tarot, it depends on the context of the overall reading itself.
