Vacation Spotlight: Summit Lake

Sitting nestled in the Monongahela National Forest in Pocahontas/Greenbrier Counties in WV, you’ll find Summit Lake. It’s a small lake with a campground surrounding it where you can take a boat, kayak or hike to one of the wooded areas to fish or just lounge by the water.

If you’re living in Charleston or any of the nearby towns, Summit Lake is a great day trip. It’s about two hours from Charleston with tons of beautiful scenery between that you can photograph.

There were a ton of picnic areas set up along the way.

The day we went, there was a large company event going on. We left and ate at one of the picnic spots near the lake and visited the nature exibit in the welcome center. By the time we finished hiking and looking at exhibits, the lake was cleared and we were able to find a nice wooded spot for the kids and my husband to fish while I took the pictures and read.

If it’ll be a longer trip and you’re interested in camping, you can find rules and contacts for staying at one of the camp grounds.
